Understanding the Full Face Filler approach
Understanding the Full Face Filler approach, also known as a liquid facelift, is increasingly key for aesthetics practitioners.
Not only does combining treatments offer a number of additional benefits to your patients, it is also charged at a higher price point yet the appointment time differs only slightly from other treatments. This makes it a win-win for both patients and injectors!
Once you’ve mastered your cornerstone filler techniques, invest in learning how and when to offer a Full Face Filler treatment.
Here Dr Jaymi Lad, clinic owner, facial aesthetics specialist and clinical trainer, answers your most frequently asked questions about the Full Face Filler approach...
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS TO THE PATIENT OF HAVING A NUMBER OF FILLER TREATMENTS AS PART OF A LIQUID FACELIFT?
“The key benefit of having multiple areas treated in this way is that we holistically treat the face, especially when it comes to rejuvenating treatments. As we age the face changes globally, so we often need to treat multiple areas to fully address age-related concerns.,” advises Dr Jaymi.
“Treating certain areas will influence other areas, so multi-area treatments often better address patient goals and can lead to better treatment outcomes. Full Face Filler treatments also save on time as the patient can have all the required treatments in a single session.”
WHO ARE THE BEST CANDIDATES FOR FULL FACE FILLER TREATMENTS?
“Often the best candidates for a liquid facelift are those seeking rejuvenating treatments,” says Dr Jaymi. “And also those with significant facial volume loss.”
WHICH ARE THE BEST TREATMENT COMBINATIONS FOR DIFFERENT COMMON SIGNS OF AGEING?
“For prominent jowls, I would recommend a treatment combination of cheeks and jawline,” advises Dr Jaymi. “This is because heaviness in the lower face is caused by loss of volume and structure in the cheek area. We need to address this first before considering a small amount of treatment to the jawline itself.”
She counsels, “For tired eyes, we can treat multiple areas in the cheeks before directly treating the under-eye (tear trough) area. Again, changes to cheek fat and bone can affect the under-eye area too. So, treating the cheeks first can indirectly improve the tear trough area.
Lastly, she notes, “If there is general volume loss, we often need to treat multiple areas in the face to keep facial proportions balanced. As our cheeks are split into compartments, this includes treating multiple areas of the cheeks. We can also treat cheeks in combination with temples, lips, chin and the jawline to globally increase facial volume.”
HOW MUCH PRODUCT DO YOU USE IN FULL FACE FILLER TREATMENTS?
“When treating multiple areas of the face I can use between 3ml-6mls,” confirms Dr Jaymi. “However, this varies depending on my patient.”
WHAT IS YOUR PERSONAL FAVOURITE MULTI ML TREATMENT COMBINATION TO PERFORM AND WHICH TECHNIQUES DO YOU USE?
“My favourite treatment combination is to address the age-related changes that occur in the mid-face,” says Dr Jaymi.
“As all our facial layers age simultaneously, we can address each layer with injectables: bone, deep fat, superficial fat and skin. Addressing multiple layers, as opposed to just one, often leads to better treatment outcomes.”
She advises using the following techniques to address…
Bony resorption in the mid-face: “You can use a supraperiosteal bolus technique at the cheek apex and along the zygoma using a needle”.
Deep fat pads of the mid-face: “You can use a linear threading technique using a cannula. Similarly, you can use a cannula in the preauricular area to address part of a more superficial cheek fat pad.
Overlying skin quality in the cheek area: “Intradermal administration of a skin booster injectable can help improve hydration and skin quality.”
WHAT DO INJECTORS NEED TO KNOW TO DO FULL FACE FILLER TREATMENTS SUCCESSFULLY?
“Plan the order in which you are going to complete treatments,” advises Dr Jaymi. She confirms this is because “some areas affect other areas of the face. For example, treating the mid-face will improve the appearance of the jowls and the jawline.”
“It’s important you know your physiology of ageing before considering rejuvenating multi-area treatments so you can adequately address this,” she states.
Two points Dr Jaymi insists new aesthetics practitioners learn in order to properly understand the Full Face Fillers approach are:
“When addressing different facial layers with multi area treatments, it’s recommended to start from deep to superficial. You need to rebuild the scaffolding of the face before working on the more superficial layers to replace facial fat.”
“When rebuilding bone, we often use a needle to administer precise boluses onto periosteum. Boluses can act like small pillars of support to lift our facial tissues. We can then use a cannula to replace volume in facial fat pads which have atrophied with age. Finally, we can also address the skin with injectables. Skin booster injectables can form the final part of your plan to optimise treatment results by addressing fine lines and wrinkles, skin hydration and to improve skin quality.”
LEARNING HOW TO DELIVER FULL FACE FILLER TREATMENTS
We hope these expert insights have you excited to get started with Full Face Filler treatments! As you’ll understand, this is something that requires a solid understanding of anatomy, as well as injecting techniques.
For a thorough grounding in the principles of aesthetic medicine and holistic treatment methods, we highly recommend undertaking the Level 7 in Botox & Dermal Fillers.
This Ofqual-regulated aesthetics course provides an exceptional education in injectables. It is widely regarded as the gold standard in postgraduate aesthetic medicine qualifications in the UK.
The Level 7 in injectables was created by our founder, Dr Tristan Mehta, in 2015 and we have been enhancing and upgrading its content ever since. It allows doctors, dentists and nurses – including midwives – to gain a thorough understanding of every area of aesthetic practice. From facial and skin ageing to ethics, and anatomy to complications prevention and management.
At Harley Academy, our Level 7 students have unparalleled mentored injecting time and never share patients. This allows for a richer, more bespoke learning experience that is just one of the reasons 100 per cent of our Level 7 graduates said they would recommend our course, in a 2022 survey.
If you’d like to find out more about our injectables courses, book a call with our courses advisor, Christine Slater. She’ll listen to your requirements, take you through your options, answer your queries and guide you to your best pathway to aesthetics excellence!
