NEW JCCP Fast Track Assessment for Aesthetics

UK aesthetic medicine is moving towards better regulation, including plans to licence injectables practitioners and premises. As such, in addition to our current Fast Track Level 7 Diploma, we are now also offering the new JCCP Fast Track Assessment.

We have partnered with the Joint Council of Cosmetic Practitioners (JCCP) and Learna to offer this non-qualification route, and will be delivering assessments in partnership with Cosmetic Courses. This is a new pathway open to healthcare professionals who’ve been practising medical aesthetics for at least 3 years.

The JCCP Fast Track Assessment is an exam-based option featuring a written and a practical exam. It’s designed to certify against the level of injectables practice that you have attained. Successful completion will allow you to then register with the JCCP, just like Level 7 Diploma and Fast Track Level 7 Diploma graduates.

WHO IS THE JCCP FAST TRACK ASSESSMENT OPEN TO?

Healthcare professionals who have been practising injectables for a minimum of 3 years are eligible for the JCCP Fast Track route. However, they must have conducted at least 25 botulinum toxin and 25 facial filler treatments per year.

WHAT QUAlIFICATION DOES IT GIVE ME?

You do not receive a qualification with this pathway.

This JCCP initiative has been designed as part of the body’s remit to set standards and competency frameworks for the UK aesthetics industry. It does this in collaboration with the Cosmetic Practice Standards Authority (CPSA).

The Fast Track Assessment is designed to determine aesthetic practitioners meet the necessary standard needed to register with the JCCP.

Being part of the established JCCP aesthetics practitioner register is seen as a marker of safe and competent practice in non-surgical aesthetics.

WHAT DOES JCCP FAST TRACK ENTAIL?

The JCCP Fast Track Assessment consists of two exams. There is no training or mentoring involved.

First there’s a three hour, invigilated, theory exam held at a London exam centre. This features 100 multiple choice questions covering various aspects of aesthetic medicine and clinical practice.

The second part is a two hour practical exam held at Harley Academy. This is a Direct Observation of Practical Skills (DOPS) exam. It involves treating a live case under directly observed exam conditions.

WHICH OF THESE FAST TRACK OPTIONS WILL ALLOW ME TO MEET THE NEW UK AESTHETICS LICENSING CRITERIA?

The precise qualifications and level of education that will be required to meet the new aesthetics licensing requirements is unknown. However, it is believed they will be mapped to the 2015 Health Education England (HEE) guidelines.

This is what these Fast Track options both look to as we prepare for the new wave of licensing announcements.

As we celebrate 7 Years of Level 7, this is the framework around which our founder Dr Tristan Mehta created the original Ofqual-regulated Level 7 specification. The current Level 7 Diploma in Botox & Dermal Fillers, in all forms, is also built on this foundation.

In preparation for the incoming licensing changes, the JCCP has set the standard for its Fast Track Assessment; it believes this also demonstrates a high level of proficiency, having also reviewed the HEE guidance.

FAST TRACK OPTIONS – AN OVERVIEW

Fast Track Level 7 Diploma in Botox & Dermal Fillers

First is an expedited option for completing our full Level 7 Diploma in Botox and Dermal Fillers, via our Fast Track Level 7 Diploma. This rewards trainees with a recognised qualification mapped to both the original HEE guidelines and the latest in aesthetics practice.

Secondly, we are recognised by the Joint Council of Cosmetic Practitioners (JCCP) and Learna to offer a non-qualification route. The JCCP Fast Track Assessment is an exam-based option designed to mark the level of practice that you have attained.

So let’s look at each of these options to explore the differences and which may be the best option for you...

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A FAST TRACK LEVEL 7 DIPLOMA AND A JCCP FAST TRACK ASSESSMENT?

Both Fast Track pathways allow experienced aesthetics practitioners to mark their skill levels in different ways. Whilst both allow you to bypass practical training elements, the key difference is that one is a qualification route and the other is not.

The main difference between our Fast Track Level 7 Diploma and the JCCP Fast Track Assessment is the qualification aspect. 

As set out above, the JCCP Fast Track Assessment does not provide you with a qualification at the end. Successful completion does, however, allow you to register with the JCCP in the same way Level 7 Diploma holders can.

Another key difference is the speed at which the necessary requirements can be completed. As you’ll see from our table below, the JCCP Fast Track Assessment requires you to take two exams. Therefore, it can be completed far more quickly than our flexible full or Fast Track Level 7 Diploma courses.

WHICH FAST TRACK OPTION IS BEST FOR ME?

Both options have their merits. Ultimately, this is a matter of personal choice and what you want to get from it.

If your goal is to obtain a recognised and regulated qualification in aesthetic medicine, the choice becomes simple. However, for most people the choice is a little more complex.

Here are some questions to ask yourself when deciding which pathway suits you best…

• How much time do you have to devote to this?
• What benefits does each pathway offer you in terms of your knowledge and aesthetics practice?
• Which option offers the best benefits for the marketing of your business or services?
• How much money are you willing to invest in your career?
• Which option will give you the best return on your investment?

WHICH OPTION GIVES YOU MORE CERTAINTY REGARDING FUTURE LICENSING CHANGES?

There is no correct answer here as we do not yet know the criteria that will be set out in this respect. However, the Level 7 Diploma is a respected and regulated qualification in injectables and the JCCP Fast Track Assessment does not offer a qualification. All three options are approved by the JCCP who are integral to defining these future education requirements for licensing.
