Pop quiz answers

Scroll down to find out how you scored and the reasoning behind each answer.

1. Which of these can contribute to the formation of marionette lines?

The answer is:

D) All of the above.

Marionettes can be caused by changes to skin quality, including those linked to smoking and sun damage. Volume loss due to ageing is also a common cause.

2. Which of these statements is true when it comes to managing this area

The answer is:

B) Skincare alone cannot resolve the specific concerns of marionette lines.

Based on their severity, one single modality is unlikely to resolve them. A treatment plan consisting of injectable and topical solutions is the best approach. This is because ageing occurs in multiple layers of the skin.

3. Where would you inject botulinum toxin to treat marionette lines?

The answer is:

B) Depressor anguli oris.

Injecting toxin around the corners of the mouth can reduce the downward pull of the depressor anguli oris muscle (DAO). Administering toxin here can reduce the appearance of marionette lines significantly.

4. Which part of the face should you consider treating before directly addressing marionette lines?

The answer is:

A) Mid-face.

Managing the mid-face can impact the lower face, so it’s a good idea to tackle any ageing there first. You should aim to treat from superior to inferior, deep to superficial and lateral to medial.
