Aesthetics Clinic Job Interview Advice

Aesthetics Clinic Job Interview Advice

Joining an established practice is a great way to start your career as an injector. Below you’ll find invaluable expert advice that will prepare you to ace your aesthetics clinic job interviews.

Both Dr Kalpna Pindolia and Dr Jaymi Lad, who have shared their insights, know what it takes to succeed in aesthetics. They have been in your shoes as practitioners attending job interviews and have also hired injectors for their own aesthetics clinics.

We recommend saving our Aesthetics Clinic Job Interview Advice Instagram post which links back to this article so you can access this advice easily throughout your career.

Aesthetics Clinic Job Interview Advice

"BE YOURSELF, PASSIONATE AND ENTHUSIASTIC"

Dr Kalpna Pindolia, director of education at Harley Academy who has owned her own London aesthetics clinic and practices as a filler specialist at STORY Marylebone.

Be sure to talk confidently about these key topics during any aesthetics clinic job interview...

1. Previous aesthetics experience.

This can include any training courses, mentoring sessions or other work you may be doing.

2. What treatments you perform and which is your favourite treatment.

Cover whether you can do advanced treatments and if you use any devices. Don’t worry if you can’t, just ensure you communicate that you are open to learning.

3. Why you want to work for this particular clinic.

Do your research about them and their practice then show this in your explanation.

4. Examples of your work.

It’s useful to have some Before & After photos ready so you can discuss your work whilst showing them examples. This is usually a requirement for aesthetic clinic job interviews.

Additionally, don’t be afraid to...

Ask questions as well as answer them.

You need to get an understanding of their values too.

Discuss payment.

Ask about remuneration and their payment terms as this varies from clinic to clinic. They need to invest in getting you busy and this is more likely to happen if you get a base rate.

Be yourself, passionate and enthusiastic.

Remember the manifestations of nerves and anxiety – adrenaline, fast heart rate, increased blood pressure – are the same as excitement!

Tell yourself you’re excited rather than anxious and your mind will start believing it.

Preparing for Aesthetics Clinic Job Interviews

"HONEST, COMPREHENSIVE ANSWERS THAT ARE WELL-PREPARED AND ENTHUSIASTIC"

Dr Jaymi Lad, clinical trainer at Harley Academy, owner of and award-nominated aesthetics practitioner at Javivo clinic in Manchester.

Here is an insight into my hiring process when hiring aesthetics practitioners, to help you prepare for your clinic job interviews.

1. The key questions I ask when employing a new injector.

  • How long have you been practicing in aesthetics?
  • What qualifications do you have? This includes medical/nursing/dental as well as aesthetics.
  • Do you have a valid regulatory body registration? GMC, NMC, GDC.
  • Why do you want a career in aesthetics and what are your future aspirations in this industry?
  • Can you show me a portfolio of your work?
  • Have you read any interesting articles or research in the aesthetics field recently? If so, can you summarise the findings?
  • What is your favourite treatment to perform and why?
  • What treatments do you feel confident performing without supervision?
  • Are there any treatments you do not feel confident performing without supervision?
  • What injectable brands do you have experience working with?
  • Do you have any experience (theoretical or practical) in managing aesthetic complications? If so, please provide details.
  • In our consultation forms, we have a question specifically asking about any history of mental health conditions, why might this be?
  • Do you know about any contraindications to performing injectable treatments on a patient?
  • How would you manage a vascular occlusion?
  • Are you insured to practice injectables and are you able to provide me with certification?
  • Why do you want to work in my clinic/for my company?

2. What I look for in candidates’ responses to these questions.

  • Honest and comprehensive answers.
  • Demonstrating that they are enthusiastic and well prepared.
  • Highlighting if they have any qualifications or experiences which may make them a stronger candidate than others. For example, candidates with a Level 7 Diploma in Botox and Dermal Fillers are often preferred over those with solely a foundation qualification due having more practical and theoretical experience.

3. Additional qualities I look for during aesthetics job interviews

In addition to clinical knowledge and the correct qualifications I look for the following traits.

  • Professionalism.
  • Enthusiasm.
  • Honesty – if they didn’t know any answers to my questions, I don’t mind as long as they answered honestly!
  • Team player.
  • Organised.
  • Punctual.
  • A genuine interest in the aesthetic field.
  • Their values are in line with our company ethos.
  • Willingness to learn and grow as an injector.
  • To be a good ambassador for my brand.

We wish you the best of luck with your aesthetics clinic job interview and, if you follow these tips, let us know how you get on!
